Two international technical standards, “Fixed, mobile and satellite convergence - Service function chain (SFC) for IMT-2020 networks and beyond” (ITU-T Recommendation Y.3214) and “Fixed, mobile and satellite convergence - Distributed core network for IMT-2020 networks and beyond” (ITU-T Recommendation Y.3216), have been approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This achievement stems from a collaborative effort involving Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST), the Mobile Communication Company of Iran (MCI), and China Mobile. Over the past three years, this team has diligently prepared and presented the respective technical documents, integrating feedback from ITU’s Study Group 13 and successfully defending them in related sessions.
These standards are tailored for 5G and IMT-2020 networks, aiming to support emerging services such as autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, and broadband communications. They introduce cutting-edge architectures to utilize next-generation networks, which include Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs), Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and Service Function Chaining (SFC).
IUST, as the first Iranian academic member, has been active in ITU since 2015, engaging in various activities such as contributing to study groups, attending forums and exhibitions, and organizing workshops, some of which have received notable recognition and awards
